For a sustainable and
ever growing future...

specialising in the cultivation, supply, installation and maintenance of lightweight planting systems for green and biodiverse roofs.

Our Green Roof and Lanscaping Systems

With Blackdown’s range of green roof systems we can provide the ideal solution for your project. Whether it is a recreational space for inhabitants, a wildlife friendly environment or to improve the atmosphere around the building. Below outlines our three core solutions – ideal for new build or refurbishment construction projects.

Intensive Green Roofs

Intensive green roofs offer the benefits of a small urban park and support a wide range of plants, trees and shrubs. They provide recreational space for people and a rich habitat for wildlife.

Extensive Green Roofs

These systems are perfect in improving air and water quality, lower carbon emissions and providing local wildlife with a suitable environment. This system is also highly efficient in attenuating water.

Biodiverse Green Roofs

These roofs adopt many of the features of an extensive green roof and can be planted with vegetation to replace or replicate a lost habitat. They are light to medium weight with relatively shallow substrate depths.

Installation Case Studies

SECC Hydro, Glasgow

The £125million SSE Hydro is a state-of-the-art entertainment and sporting venue in Glasgow. The Blackdown Intensive Green Roof system was specified by the architect as they were looking for a sustainable solution to help with the strong design features of the building’s entrance.

Chester Bus Station

Blackdown are proud to have completed the green roof at the Chester Bus Interchange site which is a £10 million ‘key enabling’ project and part of the wider £300m Chester Northgate Redevelopment.
The bus interchange is due to open early in 2017.

Kew Bridge, London

The Hydrotech Hot Melt System is the preferred waterproofing system of St James Homes and has been utilised along with Derbigum Bituminous Membranes to provide waterproofing solutions with Blackdown Green Roof applied to the podium and garden areas.

I visited site on Tuesday and was really impressed with the completed Material Store development – the podium landscape and roof terraces are well installed and it’s great to see a project where the quality of the soft landscape hasn’t been compromised – so well done to your team!
