Further Detailed Information
In order to help make your selection of our green roof system as simple as possible you will find all the relevant documentation needed for your specification and designs below.
Brown roofs offer the same advantages as biodiverse roofs but without any plant material being added at the point of installation. Plant material can either blow in from the local environment or be introduced by birds.
Blackdown would not recommend the use of site derived soils and sub-soils to be used on the roof in lieu of a proprietary biodiverse substrate of known composition.
These roofs are not designed to be trafficked and can be installed on flat to shallow pitched roofs.
Planting and Waterproofing
Typically, the substrate is mounded to offer localised habitat variation, the depth of the green roof could be between 70-250mm and weight approx. 70-300kg per sqm, depending upon weight loading limits.
No planting is provided upon installation. Typically, any plant material is introduced from external sources.
Key Specification Files

Installation and Maintenance
Blackdown Greenroof systems can be installed either by Blackdown's installation teams or by Alumasc's nationwide network of Registered Contractors
Despite the initial lack of plant material associated with a brown roof, it’s still important to provide an appropriate level of maintenance as listed for other extensive roofs.
No temporary irrigation is required.
