Extensive Brown Roof System

SPECIFICATION DRIVERS

Brown roofs offer the same advantages as biodiverse roofs but without any plant material being added at the point of installation. Plant material can either blow in from the local environment or be introduced by birds.

MAINTENACE

Despite the initial lack of plant material associated with a brown roof, it’s still important to provide an appropriate level of maintenance as listed for other extensive roofs. No temporary irrigation is required.

Key Features

Brown roofs offer the same advantages as biodiverse roofs but without any plant material being added at the point of installation. Plant material can either blow in from the local environment or be introduced by birds.

Blackdown would not recommend the use of site derived soils and sub-soils to be used on the roof in lieu of a proprietary biodiverse substrate of known composition.

These roofs are not designed to be trafficked and can be installed on flat to shallow pitched roofs.
